New Balance 2025 Tokyo Legacy Half

The second capsule I worked on for NB Special Events was for the 2025 Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon.

We approached this collection drawing inspiration from Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park, an iconic green space in the city that has served as a cultural center throughout generations.

The first couple iterations of designs didn’t wind up showing up at all in the finished capsule, but I still like this initial look:

We wound up running with a ‘stenciled icons’ look instead.

The jumble of stenciled assets wound up being a funky all-over-print that was used on tees, headwear, and accessories.

The individual t-shirt and patch graphic is a mashup of assets I created and re-interpretation of that look by New Balance’s in-house graphics team.

Pretty hyped that the design wound up as a patch and an AOP on a couple headwear styles!

And the socks are nuts, wish I could scoop a pair of these (they’re only for sale in the Japan market sadly).  I think this is actually the first design I’ve done that wound up on socks!

Another first:  ‘arm warmers’ ?

Pretty cool little project!  Thanks TMR + NB graphics gang!
